Tim gets an EeePC

Tim and his tiny laptop
That's right, our own Barrista extrordinaire, Tim, is officially the first on the block to bring in the very nifty Asus EeePC; it's tiny, great battery life, small but sharp screen, and guess what ?
It's powered by linux and it draws a crowd!

I'm so jealous!

Please let me know how you like it, Tim - I'm dying to get one... I was popping in and out of the places along College to see what the deals were.

Not to mention: Hackable!

You've mentioned screen, size, life, software... But you forgot to mention that it is a full computer under their, just waiting to be released. There are already guides on how to gain access to hidden usb ports, adding more flash memory, installing other operating systems.

Its a cheap, stable, accessible platform, with the added benefit of having a large hacking community already built around it.

I'd love to get my hands on one of these. Stick a usb hub inside, add usb->serial, usb->parallel, and usb->sata. You now have a tiny laptop which can connect to serial terminals, test network equipment, get data off clients hard drives, and every other type of task you can think of.. The perfect machine :D

Help - EEEPC Password Problem

I need help. I bought an second-hand eeepc, and the guy that i bought if from set-up a password and i cant get root on my own laptop. can anyone help me to unlock it???? Hope yes

Eee PC root password

Have you tried overloading the boot command line to set init=/bin/sh ? Then do a "passwd root".. Not sure if this still works, but it did when I needed to get into my old kernel 2.0 box ;)

The other easy solution is to mount the drive in a different PC, and then edit the /etc/shadow file, removing or replacing the hashed up password string.

My Eee

I love my Eee. So far i've wired in a touchscreen so I can use it with my bluetooth gps / navigation with touchscreen control.

I may not be too popular though with my windows xp install.. Couldn't find a gps navigation system suitable for driving that ran in linux.

I welcome suggestions, I'm willing to try!

It looks like a hybrid

It looks like a hybrid between a computer and a handheld :p
