UPDATE; this is a licensed event. Join us for the first keg of draft ever poured at linuxcaffe, and support two worthy charities.

A twin exhibit of images collected on two separate voyages (India and Mexico) capture magic from the people and places visited, will be on display (and for sale) at linuxcaffe for the month of August. The artists are not only opening a window to distant worlds, but are each raising funds for charity. On Thursday, Aug 2, Wade and Lesley will be having an opening party.

Lesley Marino - INDIA
In late 2005, Lesley traveled to Calcutta and Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. While In Calcutta, Lesley was drawn to sacred places and events, photographing the devout at the bathing ghats under the Howrah Bridge and at the Kali Temple. In the tranquil hills of Darjeeling, Lesley spent her time photographing people at the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre and wandering from one gompa (Tibetan Buddhist monastary) to another.

Wade Vroom – MEXICO
In 2006 Wade traveled through Mexico with his camera and a few of his favourite CD’s. During his travels through Mexico City, Puebla and Pureto Escondido, he approached random Mexican Citizens on the street and asked them “Una foto por favor?”, When they nodded in agreement, Wade quickly handed them a CD cover from his collection and took their picture. This photography exhibit examines how Mexican citizens react when handed a strange piece of paper, with no instructions, right before they get their picture taken by a Canadian photographer.

We don't even really know what the holiday is, but gosh, darnit, we're closing on it. It's something about Caribana, and how everybody is going to be somewhere else, and at least one day off per summer is required to prevent "losing it".

sorry for the short notice, see you Tuesday,
