UPDATE; the event was a blast !

The gathering was stimulating, dynamic and well organized , and CSI was the perfect venue. It was so much fun, linuxcaffe is hosting a follow up evening, this coming Wednesday June 11th. No advance booking required, no fees, but an opportunity to pick up the conversation and have a refeshing something.

In the spirit of Open, and in the form of bar-camp, the Shuttleworth Foundation and the Centre for Social Innovation are hosting OpenEverything

An un-conference exploring all things Open, the event will feature talks, sessions and "speedgeek" presentations by some of Toronto's most impassioned proponents of a more open society. There's only room for 60 participants, and the registration of $40 includes coffee, snacks, a hot meal and ideas that will change the world.

UPDATE: Thanks to Ben and Suzy and friends

for a magical melodious evening !
We should turn the lights out more often.
Earth Hour

On Saturday March 29, 8-9pm, linuxcaffe will join thousands of other businesses and people in Toronto (and millions worldwide) in flicking the switch, turning appliances off stand-by and enjoying an hour of quiet darkness. Earth Hour shows that, together, our small actions can make a difference to global warming.

Rain is a cellist who will perform a beautiful afternoon solo set in the lovely confines of linuxcaffe. Rain also incorporates video into her performance, making for a supersonic sensory experience. Featuring classical tunes by Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky, and well as some lesser-known (but really amusing) tunes. Should be a great show!

Here is Ian's quick autobiography, from his MySpace page:

Clicking on the support link, near the top right of this page, takes you to a list of linux consultants. For a while there, it was basically unusable, due to style issues, but now the amazing jamonation has got it up and sparkling, once again. If you're looking for help, or want to offer your Open Source related consulting services, check it out.

Do you have a facebook ?

Thanks to our friend Sam, now linuxcaffe does too.
We're not entirely sure what it's for, and still learning about care and feeding of such a thing, but you are invited to join in and do whatever it is Facebook users do.

SFD
Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).

We have had several free, open-air screenings in Bickford Park (right across the street from linuxcaffe) and we liked it a lot. We want to focus on local independent production, so if you are a local filmmaker, or you know such filmmakers, get in touch and bring your DVDs in.
